Low response to Chronicle survey
Several months ago, the Chronicle sent questionaires to all elected officals in Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. This included state, local and federal officals. More than 60 letters were sent by registered mail and less than seven where returned. All the officials who responded were positive, except for one.
The Chronicle hopes you use the information below when you vote this month and in the future. Addresses of the officials who didn't respond can be found in your phone book. When these officials seek your help in securing an elected office, remember what they did for your comunity when we asked.

Boyle: #1&2 "My record as. a successful candidate for the Ohio Legislature indicates my support for civil rights coverage for all, without regard for sexual preference. However, the office I now hold and for which I am seeking re-election does not pass laws. County government carries out some state and federal programs. Enforcement of state and federal civil rights laws is not part of the job.", #3 "It would be yes, if these matters are in charge of the review board as adopted by the council and administered by the mayor of the city with the review board.", #4 " That should not be necessary.", #5 I'm not familiar with Senator Hobson's legislation, but I support increased state funding for AIDS services and AIDS education. A number of the county's direct services are being significantly affected by AIDS. The AIDS public policy questions regarding our jail inmates, our infants in custody, our statutory responsibility to provide health care to all regardless of ability to pay, our role in providing shelter to the homeless all these and more services need to be re-evaluated in light of the tragedy of AIDS. The counties in Ohio need help and encouragement, and financial resources, from state government and soon!", #6 "I support the law of the land.", #7 "All issues regarding sex and sexual preference should be included in school education courses.", #8 "I'm not sure, but I'd be happy to learn more about what the needs are to be addressed here.", #9 "Yes", #10 No. Nor, as far as I know, do we employ liasons to any constituencies or specific communities." and same-sex dancing was the norm for the rest of the evening.
The most ironic moment of the evening was the presentation of ice sculptures in the shape of the Statue of Liberty. Ice often is sculpted in a shape that goes with the evening's theme to help present the desert course. The connection of the Statue of Liberty and AIDS never was clear and no WRAF board member could explain selection of that shape.
Everything that was needed to put on this gala was donated by several Cleveland corporations, including Eaton Corp., Ohio Bell and Stouffers Inc. Area florists banded together for the first time and made a joint project of decorating.
All money raised from the evening will be distributed by the WRAF board for AIDS services, education and research. The board also plans to hire a executive director in the next few weeks to help run the organization. All other workers are volunteers.▼

And now that we're all dressed up, it's a quick drive to Gabriels Night Life, billed Cleveland's "total enterainment complex". What an experience! Three floors to play on and great fun for sober as well as drinking patrons. There's a generous dance floor, a photograph parlor, quiet rooms, a game room -everything but daycare and laundry facilities! Gabriel's offers two types of music fast and faster plus a very amicable D.J. who gladly accepts any and all requests, though he only plays what he chooses. (Yet, he's so darn nice about it.)
There's Truffles for French pastry, D.I.N.K.y (Double Income/No Kids) Rego's for wine, fresh flowers and salad bar, Edgewater Park to run off all that food, and just a stretch to the Gay/Lesbian Community Center for a Tea Dance or monthly Women's Coffee House. So, you can call it GayBy-the-Bay. Some call it heaven. As for me...I just call it home.
Gay fathers support group
Feeling better about yourself as a male parent was the topic drug and alcoholism counselor Roger White focused on at the October Gay Fathers meeting.
"All individuals, whether gay or not, need to express their feelings," said White. "Men especially, when society expects them to keep all emotions locked up inside, find it difficult to share thoughts and feelings." He said divorced or still married gay men, with responsibilities for children, have added pressures. Many agree that homophobic issues and guilt weakens self-esteem.
White suggested quiet time as a good way to enhance one's selfimage.
Gay Fathers meet for a potluck dinner the first Thursday of each month on the West Side. All visitors ore welcome as a guest at the first meeting.
